Guigang is a prefecture-level city in eastern Guangxi in the People’s Republic of China. Prior to 1988, it was known as Gui County or Guixian. Guigang has a rail line, several major highways, an expressway, and most importantly a large port on the Xi River, its direct connection to the Pearl River Delta. The area is 10,595 km2 (4,091 sq. mi). Climate is sub-tropical and monsoonal with an annual mean temperature of 21 °C (70 °F).

Since the Qin Dynasty (221BC-206BC) conquered south regions of the Five Ridges, Guigang had been administrated by Guilin Shire, Yulin Shire in the following year. It changed into Guixian County during the Ming Dynasties (1368-1644) until many years later. In 1988, Guigang was promoted to be a city. Guigang’s population is 4,400,000, mainly Cantonese Chinese along with a number of minority tribes. The state recognizes five religions: Buddhism, Catholicism, Daoism, Islam, and Protestantism. The practice of any other faith is formally prohibited, although often tolerated, especially in the case of traditional Chinese beliefs.

Guigang is situated on the Xunyu Plain in south-eastern Guangxi, on the banks of the Xijiang River. It is one of southwest China’s most important transportation hubs – the China-Myanmar gas pipeline ends in the city. Guigang is known as the ‘lotus city’ due to the large number of lotus flowers that bloom here. It has over 2000 years of history; today, the city is a booming inland port. Popular attractions include Longtan National Forest Park, Xishan Scenic Area, Nanshan Temple and Jiuling Lake.
