Certifications and Qualifications for Non Profit Translation Services
Our experienced, knowledgeable friendly sales and project management teams will assist you in your planning, which include audio equipment, technical needs and effective implementation. When clients contact us to provide “Certified Translators” for legal proceedings, there is often confusion as to what this actually means. The term “Certified” refers to a specific designation that translators receive by completing course work and by passing challenging verbal and written tests. We understand that language is only one of your many responsibilities. By asking the right questions and devising an effective strategy, we can assist you and reduce stress by smoothly guiding you through the process.
The Federal Court System
It is interesting to note that these designations are not uniform throughout the United States. While Federal Court designations are uniform, states are not. Federal Certifications are required for federal court cases and are only in the following languages: Spanish, Navajo and Haitian-Creole. The remainders of the languages utilized in the federal courts are designated as “Professionally Qualified” which requires experience, but no official testing.
The State Court System
The State Court System works differently than the Federal Courts. The great majority of the states do not have an official “Certified” designation. Instead they use the “Professionally Qualified” designation which is similar to the federal courts. The few states that do have the official “Certified” designations have certified languages that vary from state to state. For example in California, there are exactly 12 state certified languages; in New York there are five.
