The Dravidian Languages and Indo-European Influence
Spoken in South Asia, the Dravidian is a family of over 73 different types of languages, mainly a dialect. It's also spoken in many areas such as Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh. South Asia is home to well over a fifth of world population, and using the UN sub region definition, is the most populous and densest in the world. This gives South Asia a unique mix of cultures and traditions to learn from, along with a rich history to study. Almost all South Asian countries were under direct or indirect European Colonial subjugation at some point. Much of modern India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Myanmar were gradually occupied by Great Britain - starting from 1757, reaching their zenith in 1857 and ruling till 1947. Because of this there is a great amount of western European influence in South Asia cultures.
The Mysterious Origins of Dravidian
There is no clear origin for the Dravidian languages or their development. The Dravidian languages have remained an isolated family to the present day and have defied all of the attempts to show a connection with the Indo-European tongues. Because Dravidian languages are mainly spoken in the southern portion of Indian, it is believed that the ancient domain of Dravidian speech stemmed before the arrival of Indo-European speakers.
The Grammar and Phonology of Dravidian Languages
Dravidian languages share many similarities in their grammar usage and phonology since they stem from the same language tree. The major word classes are nouns, adjectives, verbs and indeclinable. Dravidian languages are noted for the lack of distinction between aspirated and unaspirated stops. While some Dravidian languages (especially Malayalam, Kannada and Telugu) have accepted large numbers of loan words from Sanskrit and other Indo-European languages in addition to their already vast vocabulary.
